One
of the most important derivates of lac is Aleuritic
Acid. It is obtained from Shellac (Seedlac) by saponification.
We produce the technical-grade of Aleuritic Acid,
which has a purity of over 98% and is a white (almost
colorless) powder.
Aleuritic Acid (9, 10, 16-Trihydroxy Palmitic Acid)
is a unique acid containing three hydroxyl groups
of which two are of adjacent carbon atoms.

STRUCTURE |

USES
AND APPLICATIONS |
Aleuritic
Acid is a critical component in the synthesis of macro-cyclic
fragrance chemicals such as ambrettolide, iso-ambrettolide,
civetone, dehydiocivetone, exaltone, glucose manoaleuritate
and related lactones. |
PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES |
Aleuritic
Acid is moderately soluble in hot water and crystallizes
out on cooling the solution. It is also soluble in
the lower alcohols such as methyl, ethyl and isopropyl
alcohols. |
